The Future of Search

Great New York Times article on the next frontier in search technology. It’s searching databases. Currently search engines only catalog webpages but there’s infinitely more information out there in the form of web based databases like the ones that contain flight pricing data. I took a peek at DeepPeep.org, which this article lauds as being at the forefront of “deep web” or database search and sadly Deep Peep is not all that effective. Looks like there is a long way to go.

  1. Hmmm… I’m excited about this, but also nervous. We haven’t done the deep web thus far, and I think that a lot of people will be in trouble when that happens. Our information is everywhere and it’s going to be available, sooner or later… but we aren’t prepared for it.

  2. I work with a company, Deep Web Technologies, that has been doing deep web searching since 2002. Our applications search in real-time, so information is not indexed and stale. While most of our applications are not really consumer oriented, you may want to check out http://www.biznar.com for an example of what’s next for the deep web!
